Driving Factory Efficiency with Double Skin Steel Partitions

Challenge

We undertook a project to address the client’s growing spatial needs resulting from their recent business expansions. The scope of the work was to design and install a robust office space for the team managers on the factory floor. This enclosure needed to be fixed but with the ability to disassemble or relocate in the future to adapt to the evolving factory space requirements.

The client had two objectives for their new factory office. Firstly, they wanted a secure office environment for admin-based tasks. In addition, they wanted to be able to oversee their factory floor to monitor progress and assess crucial health and safety matters.

Solution

The industrial installation began with a full survey to deliver a solution that met all of the client’s business needs. Following this, we proposed a lightweight and free-standing metal skin partitioning system.

Key Double Skinned Partitioning Features

• Window Modules – The steel partitions featured laminated safety glass window modules to provide the requested visibility from the enclosed office to the factory floor.
• Single Industrial Door – Within the factory office, we incorporated a single door for easy access in and out.
• Powder Coated Finish – The industrial partitions were finished in a powder coating for durability and a clean finish.

With the option of supporting mullion posts, the steel partition’s design allowed for free-standing installation if the client required. The mullions can be drilled into the floor at 2-3 panel intervals, or at the corners and edges, to offer flexibility in the factory’s space usage.

As acoustics were not a significant concern for the client, there was therefore no requirement for a roof or lid to their factory office. This, however, is a cost-effective option for our clients where acoustic considerations are important.

Outcome

We successfully delivered the project on time and within budget, with minimal interruption to the client’s operations. The installation of double skin steel partitions created a modular and adaptable office suitable for future changes to the factory layout. The client saw an increase in productivity as team managers had a dedicated space away from the factory for admin-based tasks. Thanks to the modular windows within the industrial partitions, connectivity between the two spaces remained.
